Recently, the Tea Man has been coming under a bit of fire for some of the content on ManTeas.com

@popelizbet
on Twitter was certainly not the first to complain, but she was the first to mis-label us as homophobic:

no thanks, @manteas, the men in my life take sugar and sometimes milk, but not homophobic marketing. #nicetrybutno

For the record, I personally think gay dudes are great. They leave more chicks for the rest of us. And I’ve already said my peace about lesbians elsewhere. Though I would never encourage guys “to treat lesbians they encounter as a wandering peep show,” it’s still hot to think about two chicks together.

So, in summary, Man Teas (and the Tea Man) are not homophobic. Misogynistic, sexist, chauvinist pig? Maybe. But not homophobic.

Where on earth is she/he/it getting homophobic? I can’t find a single reference to sexual orientation on this entire page.. Yes the entry for beer tea does have a picture of an Octoberfest-esque beer-wench, but how is heterosexuality in and of itself homophobic? Not all gay men are afeminant you know Mrs popelizbet, some of them are beer swilling football watching pigs just like us strait gents, they just get a little less hot and heavy during the halftime cheerleader shows.

(ok so I personally HATE football, I equally hate it when liberal-arts majors “TAKE A STAND”)

  • Dan:

Agreed! Why in the hell would anyone get a homophobic impression from this site/idea?? If anything, I would expect a backlash from females in general (not that it would be warranted). Weird.

  • Marlena:

Whatever you guys are, you are as bad as all the girly girls who have to flavor their tea to the point it no longer tastes like tea. Berries or beer, it makes no difference. Real Men and real women drink real tea, at least most of the time.
By the way, being crude is not being manly.

  • Having ordered the Beer tea I can say that, well, its pretty awesome. One thing I’ve always appreciated about his teas is that you can still taste the tea. As for being crude.. I don’t really find this site that crude, Ok, so the logo is a little low-brow, but its also the best part of the site so it can be forgiven a bit…

listen Tea man, you keep calling it the way you see it. Let the critics deal with their insecurities on other sites.

  • D.E.:

“It’s kind of like how some chicks dig other chicks, and most of us guys, even though we know that, technically, lesbians are poaching on our turf, well, we don’t mind it so much, cause it’s kinda hot. We just want to watch.”

You don’t think that homophobic or extremely disgusting?

I’m so glad I’ve never bought from either you or 52teas, My Sweet Honeybush and Southern Boy Teas and as someone in the tea industry, I’ll be sure to let everyone I know not to bother either. I found you through Steepster and I’m really glad I’ll now know to ignore all of 52tea’s posts and comments.

    • Admin:

Key phrase here: “As someone in the tea industry…” what a shame.

Penis envy is so unbecoming. Are our teas so much more popular than yours that you have to resort to this sort of smear campaign? I guess if that helps you sleep at night…

  • VaginaOwner:

This is a joke, right? You forged these comments yourself as a prank, right? PLEASE, for the love of every religious icon, tell me people aren’t really this up tight over a TEA WEBSITE!
Marlena, “Real Men and real women drink real tea..” may be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s women like you that embarrass women like me.
D.E., do you even KNOW what homophobic MEANS?! It’s apparent, by your ridiculous statement, that you do not. No, it’s NOT homophobic and it’s NOT extremely disgusting. It’s funny! FUNNY, you humorless twit.
It’s comments like that that make me want to stab the both of you in the ovaries. Tea Man, carry on!
